Discipline

I am wondering what peoples opinions are of the way discipline has changed over the years?? I remember being told....having it drummed into us as children at youth theatre. You need to be disciplined to get anywhere as an artist. We weren't allowed to discuss the outside world until rehearsals or class was over. These days I feel children are less committed and don't have the same work ethic.
What are other peoples views on how it has changed?
